Our First Project

To begin with we visited some NGOs / Schools for the underprivileged and chose to work for Rakum's School for the Blind.

About Rakum School for the Blind : The founder of these schools Acharya Sri Rakum, was once upon a time pursuing an international career in martial arts. He has travelled widely all over the world to seek a deeper definition of Karate. Ignoring the clarion call to fame, riches and fortune, he left his international martial arts career behind to dedicate himself to the cause of visually challenged children. He wants to make a difference to these children through people like us. His motto is "We live on what you give". Today, he has 3 schools and is supporting around 500 children in and around Bangalore. You can visit the website : www.rakum.org for more details.

The Action Plan
With the intention of giving them love, happiness and empowerment, we have identified the following activities and have started working to them :

1. Musical Instruments : Blind students love music and the children of this school were no different. We saw that they had a good set of musical instruments once upon a time. These were not only their source of their entertainment but also enabled them to hone their skills in the area of music. Unfortunately, in due course these instruments went bad one by one and today the situation is such that the school is left with no instruments working. We want to give them their happiness back and we have decided to fix / repair these for them and also supply more that we believe they should have.

2. Entertainment evening : We want to give them the experience that they are no different than us. We want to accept them as they are and as they are not. We want them to give an opportunity to be with us, enjoy with us and even perform with us. An entertainment evening is planned on 28th June 2008 in their school premises in Indiranagar. There will be people like us who will be singing, playing music for them and they will be doing the same for us. We will be inviting about 150-200 people for this evening and we plan to make it a memorable evening for them and for all of us for a long time.

3. Computer Lab : The school has grown over the course of time and there are enough children in the school who are keen and ready for computer education. We want to empower them by giving them access to computer education. Some of us visited the school to assess the health of their computer lab. They had some computers which were donated to them by some company. However, the lab was not operational. We have decided to make a lab operational not only for their Indiranagar school but also for their Devanahalli school. These computers will have special software which helps the blind to use these computers. The Indiranager computer lab is almost setup now and some of us will be visiting the Devanahalli school this weekend to start the similar work there.

4. Daily needs : We would also like to setup a support system for them through which we will ensure continuous and regular supply of daily needs from big retailers like Big Bazaar, Reliance Fresh, More, Food world, etc.

Our belief is that there are enough people like you and me who always had the intention of making the difference to these children. The Sambhav Project is an opportunity to come forward and make a difference.
